大ヒット映画「君の名は。」の映画プロデューサーとして世界的に知られ、また小説家としても活躍する川村元気さんが2012年に発表した自身初の小説『世界から猫が消えたなら』の英語版『If cats disappeared from the world』（Flatiron Books）が12日、米国でリリースされた。出版を記念して23日、紀伊國屋書店ニューヨーク本店でトーク＆サイン会が行われた。

トークショーでは、『君の名は。』や『電車男』などをヒットさせてきた映画プロデューサーとしてのこれまでの自身のキャリアや、『世界から猫が消えたなら』のアイデアが生まれた経緯、現在行っているハリウッドでの仕事などを語った。
観客からの質問に答えるＱ＆Ａも行われ、「10年後の目標は何か」「世界から猫が消えたならに出てくる猫の名前はどうやって決めたのか」など多くの質問が投げ掛けられた。トーク後のサイン会では日本人のみだけでなく、さまざな人種の人が列をなし、川村さんの米国での人気がうかがわれた。
